Why petitions work

Petitions put pressure on targeted decision-makers. Your petition signature demonstrates public support for an issue, while we also do other mobilizing work to influence politicians and decision makers. The number of signatures indicates the importance of an issue to politicians, who have many issues competing for their attention. When we meet with politicians, the petition is evidence of how many voters care about the issue.

Politicians care about public opinion. As a crown corporation, Canada Post must respond to the concerns of the public. If we demand change, as voters and as users of public services, it is their job to listen. The petition demonstrates that we’re expressing a collective demand and helps get their attention.
